Expertise on the responsible use of AI in Justice, Public Safety, and Security.
The AI Center of Excellence was stood up at the request of agencies that needed help preparing for AI-based capabilities, and to encourage the private sector to develop fully vetted solutions. The COE provides expertise on the responsible and ethical use of AI across law enforcement, courts, corrections, emergency management, and homeland security.
The mandate
Four services. One mission.
These are not plug-and-play tools. Successfully deploying AI involves acquiring the right technology, training staff, developing policy, and managing change. Until now there was no place for agencies and the private sector who serve them to seek guidance and validate AI-based solutions. The COE is that venue.

AI awareness, operational, policy, and implementation training for executives, leaders, practitioners, and staff.

Technical Assistance
Help developing effective AI strategies, governance, implementation plans, procurement approaches, and operational readiness.

Policy Analysis & Development
Detailed analysis of current or proposed policies, acts, and legislation, and help creating or updating policies that address ethics, security, and privacy.

Solution Assessment & Development
A lab environment to evaluate the efficacy of algorithms and models, and a venue for solution providers to develop and bring vetted solutions to market.
